Configuration of the Thompson SpeedTouch Router 585

Process Step Description

1.       

Start the router and connect a LAN cable between the PC and one of the router LAN ports.

Open  a browser on the PC

Select Set Up.

Click next to start the wizard.

Enter the username and password, these are specific to the user and can be found both on the BT order confirmation and on the users BT ADSL account page at (see doc)

Click next

 

The router will return a script of the settings for confirmation before writing them to memory.

6.       

Check the details and click “Start”. The configuration will be sent to the router which will then re-start.

7.       

Once restarted the router will return the above screen. Click Finish.

8.       

Return to the original browser window and enter 192.168.1.254 into the address window.

9.       

Click on the “Internet” link.

10.   

Confirm that the username has been retained by the router.

11.   

Click on “Home Network”.

12.   

Click on “WLAN” and from the Wireless Access Point screen select “Configure” in the upper right of the window.

13.   

Check the “Use WEP Encryption” radio button. The “WEP Encryption Key Length” and “WEP Encryption Key” fields will be displayed.

Ensure that the key length is set to 64 Bit.

Click “Apply”

15.   

Select “Toolbox” from the left of the window.

Select “User Management”

17.   

Select “Change my Password”

Leave the “Old Password” field blank, enter the Issupport password into “New Password” and confirm.

Click “Change Password”

18.   

N.B. Case matters in the Username field.

Click “OK”. You should then be allowed to continue.

19.   

Close the browser on the PC and power off the router.

20.   

Restart the router and once the self test has finished browse to it using 192.168.1.254.

21.   

You will now be required to enter username and password before entry is allowed.

22.   

Check that the Internet Username and Password are still present and that WEP is still enabled. 

 

23.   

Power off and send the router to the user.
